Introduction to 'C' Programming

C is a programming language developed by Dennis Ritchieat at Bell Laboratories US, in the year 1972 . ‘C’ is an extremely popular language because it is simple Efficient, and reliable. ‘C’ is considered to be a middle-level language since it has the features of both low-level language and high level language. 'C' because many of its features were derived from an earlier language called ‘B’. Although C was designed for implementing system software, It was later on widely used for developing portable application software.

Basic of 'C' Programming Language.

  1. Small Size
  2. Extensive use of function calls
  3. Loose typing
  4. Structured Language
  5. Low level programming readily avaiable
  6. Pointer implementation - extensive use of pointers for memory, array, structures an function

Reasons for using 'C' language:

    C has now become a widely used professional language for various reasons.
  1. It has high-level constructs
  2. It can handle low-level activities.
  3. It produces efficient programs.
  4. It produces efficient programs.
  5. It can be compiled on a variety of computers.

C Program Structure

    C program basically has the following form:
  1. Preprocessor Commands
  2. Type definitions
  3. Function prototypes - Declare function types and variables passed to function.
  4. Variables
  5. Functions.

Syntax of 'C'

#include<stdio.h> // preprocessor commands
void main()	// main function of 'C'
{
	int a = 10;	// variable declaration
    printf("%d",a);	// Printing value at output screen
}

Components of 'C' Language

    The five main components of 'C' language are:
  1. Character set
  2. Data type
  3. Constants
  4. Variables
  5. Keywords
